What a CFO candidate reads before the first call

Senior finance candidates do their own due diligence long before they speak to us. Companies should expect it.

An open notebook with handwritten notes and a pencil

A strong CFO candidate will have read the annual report, the last two sets of accounts and every public statement by the chief executive before our first conversation.

They are not looking for reasons to say yes. They are looking for the questions nobody has answered yet, such as the covenant headroom, the audit history or the reason the previous CFO left.

Be ready to answer

We advise clients to prepare honest answers to those questions before the search begins. Candidates trust a company that names its problems more than one that hides them.

The best candidates will find the problems anyway.
